That's My Girl

To be honest, it's still a little surreal to me that I have a daughter (or three little ones, ages four and under). I think the biggest differences so far are the diaper changes and that there is A Lot of Pink around here!

I never thought I would know what to do with a little boy, and then we had two. I knew I always wanted a little girl too, but when we found out we were pregnant and were going to see pink and purple and flowers and dollies and hair bows, I started wondering what in the world I was going to do. After two little boys, I started wondering if I could even handle a little girl.

Everyone kept telling me during my pregnancy how different the bond is between a Mommy and her Son compared to a Mommy and her Daughter. How much the boys would love having a sister. How amazing it is to watch a Daddy with his little girl. Things that are so hard to describe or put into words until you experience it for yourself.

And you know what? I am in Love! Just look at Zyrena...how could you not be?

Baby Feet

I just can't get enough of baby feet. I am always taking pictures of baby feet and those itty bitty little baby toes. And Zyrena definitely has my long toes.

Look at them...how can you not love them?

They Love Their Baby Sister

The boys just cannot get enough of Zyrena. Between her big brothers and her Daddy, I think it's pretty safe to say she won't have a boyfriend until she's oh, say, at least, thirty????

Awesome Weekend Weather

We had some wonderful spring and summer-like weather this weekend. Of course we had to take advantage of it. The boys had a blast and it helped to tire them out. I think this afternoon was the best nap they've taken in awhile!

First Well Check-Up

This morning Zyrena had her first well check-up. She weighed in at 7 lbs, 1 oz and measured 20 inches long. So, she is not back to her birth weight just yet (7 lbs, 5 oz) but we're getting there. She was 6 lbs, 13 oz when we came home, 6 lbs, 10 oz last Friday during our first home care visit, and she has been slowly gaining since. Zyrena also grew 3/4 inches.

As for her jaundice and bili level, her doctor wasn't concerned with how she looked. She is gaining, pooping and peeing, having some awake time, isn't dehydrated, and is nursing every two to three hours (sometimes still by Mommy having to wake her). She does still fall asleep very easily and quickly while nursing, which had me worried that maybe she wasn't getting enough (even though I have also been pumping and offering that when needed). But, since she is gaining and is having some very wet and poopy diapers, her doctor assured me that she is getting what she needs (have I mentioned before how much I love our doctor?). He did send us down to the hospital for one more heel prick since her level did go up during the first 24 hours of not wearing the bili blanket. I just heard back and her level went from 12.5 yesterday to 11.4 today, so he is confident that we are done with the blanket! Whew!

And since Zyrena's big brothers are napping (a major feat around here anymore) I am off to have some just Mommy-Daughter time.

10.5

I just heard back from our nurse and that is Zyrena's bili level from today! After speaking to our doctor, the nurse told us that we can turn off the blanket and someone will be out to pick it up tomorrow. Of course, another nurse will be out tomorrow sometime (not sure when as she said they have A Lot of babies on bili blankets right now) to check her levels one more time to make sure that they didn't go back up.

I am so happy to be able to hold her without that darned blanket. And now we just pray that her levels don't jump again and we can be rid of the blue glowing blanket for good!

Waiting Game

I'm beginning to wonder if I should call the home care nurse program or not. Today was the earliest the nurse has come out so far, and yet, I still haven't heard anything back about Zyrena's level and whether her doctor wants to continue the bili blanket or not.

Yesterday her bili level went down to 12.9, so we were all hoping that today would be her last day on it. Of course, we also had a little scare yesterday afternoon. While the nurse was out Zyrena's temp was only 97, enough that her doctor would want to send her back to the hospital for re-admission if it didn't go back up. The nurse checked it twice and both times it was the same. She told me to check her temp thirty minutes after her next feeding, thinking that it was so low just from all of the undressing of her we had done and the fact that she had just nursed. We also added a layer of clothing and another blanket. Thankfully when she called back, Zyrena's temp was back up to 97.7, so she was good to stay home!

Zyrena also gained an ounce from yesterday to today, putting her at 6 lbs, 14 oz, so we are getting there! Now I just hope the nurse calls us back soon...with some Good news.
